From pencil traces to digital designs

Holis! Lets dive into how Pokémon cards lead me to graphic design. Looking back, it's amazing to see how small moments shaped my path and led me to where I am today.

It started when I was just a kid, fascinated by the cute characters on Pokémon cards. I would carefully tracing each character with a pencil, trying to capture every line and detail. It was my own way of connecting with art, even if I didn’t realize it at the time. My mom noticed how much I loved it, and she decided to enroll me in art classes. Those classes became the highlight of my week, introducing me to a whole new world of mediums and techniques. I learned to use charcoal to create dramatic contrasts, pastel chalks to add soft, vibrant colors, watercolors to paint light and movement, and acrylics to bring boldness and texture into my work.

Over the years, I always found ways to bring art into my life. Whenever there was an opportunity to choose an extracurricular in school, art was always my first choice. I loved experimenting with different materials and styles, and each project allowed me to express myself in a unique way.

When it was time to decide on a college major, I found myself torn. My deep love for animals had me considering animal science—I always wanted to be a vet, but I knew that science wasn’t my strongest suit. Art was always my favorite pass time, and technology was increasingly becoming a part of the world around me. I realized that graphic design was the perfect way to combine my love for art with the innovative possibilities of technology.

Making that choice was a turning point. I applied to Texas State and was accepted into the Communication Design program. Design has allowed me a space to bring creativity and structure together. It’s the art of visual storytelling, and I get to bring my ideas to life in ways I never imagined. From branding projects to digital illustrations, graphic design lets me explore and grow as an artist while helping others share their stories visually.

Art will always be the foundation of who I am. I’m grateful for every class, every pencil trace, and every decision that led me here. Whether you’re just starting out or exploring new creative paths, remember that art is a journey, and every moment of curiosity brings you closer to who you’re meant to be.
